Okonomiyaki

Okonomiyaki is a savory Japanese pancake made from flour, egg, water and variety of ingredients. The name, Okonomi-yaki means “Cook what you like” or “Cook how you like”, so you can add anything you like into the batter. Most common ingredients are cabbage, carrot, green onion, sliced/ground pork, prawn, Tempura chips, etc.

Ingredients (* Items in bold are sold in store )

★Okonomiyaki flour mix, 200g

eggs, 3

chopped vegetables(cabbage), seafood or cooked meat

water, 240cc

Okonomiyaki sauce, mayonnaise and bonito flake for toppings

1, Put all ingredients into a large bowl and mix until they get well combined. You can adjust amount of water by adding little by little.

2, Heat up frying pan or hotplate with a little oil on medium heat. Pour the mixed batter into a round pancake shape and cook one side for 5-6minutes and flip it over to cook another a few minutes until it turns light brown color.

3, When it’s cooked , put okonomiyaki on the plate and add sauce, mayonnaise and your favorite toppings. Bon appetite.

Udon Noodles Soup

Ingredients (* Items with bold are sold in our store )

Udon noodle (frozen or dried)

Inariage( seasoned fried tofu sheet/pouch)

Green onion (chopped)

Mentsuyu(Japanese soup base made from soy sauce, sake, mirin, and broth ) Around 8-10 parts water for 1 part Mentsuyu

Water

1, Cook soup with mentsuyu and water in a pan, not bring to boiling. You can adjust soup by adding water, cooking sake or soy sauce.

2, In another cooking pan, boil water and cook noodle for minutes directed in a package

3, Drain cooked noodle well and transfer to serving bowl

4, Pour the soup gently over the noodle and add toppings (green onion and inariage).

Gyoza(Frozen)

Ingredients (* Items in bold are sold in store )

Frozen Gyoza

Water

Cooking oil 1tbs

Toasted sesame oil 1tbs

Ponzu (Japanese citrus soy sauce)or Gyoza sauce

1, Heat cooking oil in a flat frying pan in medium heat.

2, Put frozen gyoza in a pan and pour little water just to cover the bottom of the pan. Cover with the lid.

3, Cook on a medium heat, keep them covered until all the water has evaporated and underside of the gyoza is golden brown.(approx for 5mins)

4, Pour 1tbs of vegetable oil or toasted sesame oil over gyoza and cook for another 30sec.

5, Serve with Ponzu sauce or gyoza sauce.

Japanese style curry rice

Ingredients (* Items in bold are sold in store ) Amounts are instructed on each package of Curry roux

Rice(Cooked)

Box of Japanese Curry roux

Potato, carrot and onion cut into large dice

Meat (if you like) cut into dice or thick slice

Vegetable oil

Water

1, Brown meat in a large pot and transfer to the plate.

2, Cook onions in the same pan with cooking oil for a few minutes and add other vegetables and cooked meat. Stir fry for 5minutes in medium heat.

3, Add water to the pot and bring to boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and cook for 30-45 minutes until vegetables and meat become tender.

4, Turn off the heat. Break curry roux block and add to the pot. Simmer well and cover with lid and leave it to sit for at least 15min.

5. Put the rice in a bowl and pour curry over the rice.

6. Serve with sweet pickles, Fukujin-zuke, as a garnish, if you like.

Yakisoba (Stir fried noodle)

Ingredients (* Items in bold are sold in store )

Yakisoba noodle (Chinese egg noodle)

Chopped or sliced vegetables ( Cabbage, carrot, onion, bean sprout, etc.)

Sliced meat or cut seafood if you like (pork, chicken, prawn or squid)

Yakisoba sauce

Cooking oil

Aonori( powdered seaweed )

1, Rinse noodle with running water quickly and drain well.

2, Put cooking oil in a heated frying pan. Stir fry meat until brown and then add vegetables.

3, Transfer cooked meat and vegetables to the plate.

4, Cook noodle with oil in heated frying pan.

5, Add cooked meat and vegetables into the noodle, then add Yakisoba sauce.

6, Mix them well and dish up on the plate, sprinkle Aonori if you like.

Avocado Roll Sushi

Ingredients (* Items in bold are sold in store )

Rice (short grain Japanese sushi rice)

Sushi vinegar 1tbs for a bowl of rice( Please adjust by tasting rice and adding vinegar little by little)

Sushi seaweed sheet

Avocado (peeled and sliced)

Toasted sesame

Soy sauce

Bamboo sushi rolling mat

1, Cook rice with a little less water than regular rice cooking recipe as we add sushi vinegar into cooked rice.

2, Transfer cooked rice to wide pan or tray and quickly pour sushi vinegar evenly. Toss the rice around gently without mashing it, then let it stand until it is cool.

3, Lay the seaweed on the bamboo rolling mat and spread the sushi rice over the seaweed and flatten.

4, Put avocado in line, then roll up from your front to forward.

5, Cut into 6pieces and serve with Soy sauce.

Hiyayakko (Chilled Tofu) with chilli sauce

Ingredients (* Items in bold are sold in store )

Tofu (Medium firm or soft / silken )

★Fried garlic chili sauce

Ginger (ground)

Green onion (chopped)

★Roasted sesame oil

1, Drain the chilled tofu for 10min by wrapping a paper towel

2, Combine all ingredients in a small bowl and mix well to make chilli sauce mix

3, Cut tofu into 4-6 pieces and put each piece on a serving dish.

4, Put chilli sauce mix on the top and enjoy
